In its latest 18-Month Outlook, IESO, which oversees the province’s bulk electricity system, anticipates demand could reach as high as 24.8GW this summer in “extreme weather peak.” It forecasts normal weather demand at 22.99GW.
As of 13 February, IESO had 34.36GW of total installed capacity with 26.52GW forecast capability at summer peak. Installed capacity includes 2.543GW of wind. Nuclear is the leading generation source in Ontario, followed by hydro, gas/oil and wind, with biofuel and solar providing a small contribution.
