The debut report from the UK’s Onshore Wind Cost Reduction Taskforce (OWCRT) sets out a series of measures needed to drive down costs at new onshore wind farms to below those of combined-cycle gas generation.
The recommendations encompass an effectively-functioning consenting process, improvements to the grid connection system, and a commitment by the industry to adopt innovation and share best-practice.
If all the measures are implemented, the OWCRT estimates that up to £21/MWh ($31/MWh) can be cut from onshore wind’s costs by the end of the decade.
