It will be a landmark moment, the potential launch pad for a new multi-billion-dollar sector.
“[The] Block Island [project] is critically important to moving the industry forward in the US”, says Jeffrey Grybowski, chief executive of developer Deepwater Wind. “In order to tap into these very large markets for offshore wind, the US needs to see a demonstration project succeed.”
This will mean completing the facility on time, within budget and in an environmentally safe manner, while showing that the technology is efficient and reliable, particularly during the harsh winter, when state residents face soaring electricity prices due to natural-gas shortages.
