The three so-called “Call Areas” are comprised of 195 whole OCS blocks and 60 partial blocks, totaling 1,441sq nautical miles (3,918sq km). One area is located six miles (9.65km) off Kitty Hawk, and two areas are located seven and 13 miles off southern Wilmington.
The proposed areas were identified by DOI’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and North Carolina’s renewable energy task force.
