In her inaugural speech as chief executive, Maria Sílvia Bastos Marques described alternative anergy as a “sector that is important, in which the bank already has relevance, and in which we aim to give even more focus”.
The BNDES, which is funded mainly by payroll taxes, handed out R$136bn ($38.4bn) in loans last year. The loans can be made only to companies (Brazilian or foreign) that generate jobs in the country.
