The multinational will buy about 125GWh of power annually from the Sanquhar project under development by Community Windpower in the Scottish borders region.

The nine-turbine wind farm, which received consent in 2013, is due to start operations in the first half of 2017.

The plant will account for 50% of the power needs of Nestlé’s operations in the UK & Ireland, said the global business, which is a signatory to the RE100 corporate renewables initiative.
