The cross-party Energy and Climate Change Select Committee wants to see a goal to reduce power industry emissions to below 100 grammes of CO2/kWh by 2030.

The UK already has a legally binding target to cut emissions by 80% on 1990 levels by 2050. To meet this, the government sets five-yearly carbon budgets.

The select committee of Members of Parliament (MPs) called on the government to accept the recommendation by its advisory Committee on Climate Change to sign up to a 57% cut in emissions for the fifth carbon budget, which runs from 2028-32.
