The Wind VIII project added about 1.05GW of nameplate generation capacity and the Wind IX project about 162MW. The 448-turbine Wind VIII was a $1.9bn investment, the largest economic development project in Iowa’s history, according to the rate-regulated utility.
Wind is now 42% of its installed nameplate generation capacity. Unlike most utilities, MidAmerican largely owns its wind farms. It plans construction this spring on two additional wind farms in Iowa totaling up to 552MW of capacity.
