In a long and detailed energy proposal, Snyder, a business-friendly Republican elected in 2010, says Michigan must dramatically reduce its use of coal over the coming decade, for both economic and environmental reasons.

Making up the difference will be natural gas, energy-efficiency measures and renewables – with onshore wind likely to be the biggest beneficiary among renewables sources.
