The global classification group signed off the 8MW offshore machine after a test and verification programme that spanned the UK and Denmark.
The turbine’s blade and blade-bearing were tested on the Isle of Wight off southern England, where blade production will be based.
The V164’s drivetrain was put through its paces by DNV GL in Aarhus and Oesterild, Denmark – the latter home to the prototype turbine.
