Mexico is preparing to launch its first renewables tender of 2017 by the end of April, as it continues to implement a programme that aims to reach 35% of non-hydro clean-energy supply by 2025.

The tender should be concluded by mid-October, said Eduardo Meraz Ateca, director general of Mexico’s grid operator and power sector regulator Cenace, which organises the tender.

For the first time, said Ateca, Mexico will have additional power distributors buying electricity at the tender, following the start of the break-up of state power company CFE’s monopoly under recent energy reforms.
