Patrick – a staunch renewables supporter and possible future US presidential contender for the Democratic Party – met with Andrew Jamieson, chief executive of the UK’s Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, to discuss barriers to entry in the offshore wind market, technical challenges in establishing the industry, and how to grapple with policy incentives in changing political and economic climates.
Also on hand were representatives from National Grid, the UK’s transmission system operator which also generates, distributes and supplies electricity in the northeastern US – and has an agreement to buy half of the power generated at Cape Wind.
