Marubeni was one of two companies selected by the Japanese government in August last year to build and operate a 250MW wind farm off the coast of Kashima port.
The project, to use fixed foundations, would be Japan’s largest wind farm when it starts operating in 2016 “at the earliest”, says Tomofumi Fukuda, deputy general manager at Marubeni.
Marubeni will work on the project with partner company Wind Power Energy and will “most likely” use Hitachi’s 5MW turbine, he tells Recharge.
