MAKE sees slower 2016 wind growth as China returns to normal

MAKE Consulting predicts global grid-connected wind capacity growth will decline by 17% this year, mainly due to a return to relatively normal conditions in China, which experienced a rush of activity at the end of 2015.

MAKE said a reported 32.9GW of grid-connected capacity and 30.5GW of installed capacity in China last year greatly exceeded industry expectations.

The consultancy says the rush in China at the end of 2015 as developers sought to maximise the benefits from expiring feed-in tariff levels "is symptomatic – albeit an extreme case – of a broader dynamic facing several of the wind industry’s mature markets".
