The deadline for submitting initial proposals is 1 May 2011.
The move aligns with Governor John Baldacci’s stated goal that he wants Maine to become the early leader in developing offshore renewable energy technology in the US.
According to PUC , it will define “deepwater offshore wind energy pilot project” as one that employs one or more floating wind turbines in the Gulf of Maine no less than 10 nautical miles from shore and at a depth no less than 300 feet.
