The companies will develop 7.5MW of pilot projects in “a few years” before starting work on the commercial wind farms, adds engineering and machinery group Hitachi-Zosen in a statement.

The group is aiming to invest 120bn yen ($1.5bn) in the projects, which could total 300MW, according to reports.

The location of the wind farms has not yet been decided. The group will initially test the use of floating turbine systems, with a view to moving ahead with the full-scale projects if successful.
