Texas is the largest US electricity market with ERCOT managing the flow of power to 24 million customers in a deregulated market - about 90% of the state’s electric load. The grid in its region connects more than 43,000 miles of transmission lines and 550 generation units. It also performs financial settlements for the competitive wholesale bulk power market.

ERCOT has played a major role since 2000 in integrating wind power in its region, which has more installed capacity than any US state.
