The National Offshore Wind Association of Ireland said the country is on track to miss its 2020 goal of supplying 40% of its power from renewable sources, partly because onshore wind development is meeting opposition.
NOW Ireland said the country has almost 3GW of offshore resources “immediately ready for construction” which could play its part in boosting renewables’ share of total national power demand that is increasing on the back of economic recovery.
