India's wind power market shoved aside by rocketing China

India's wind power industry continues losing ground to China. China knocked India back to fifth place in terms of total installed wind power capacity at the end of 2008, according to the Global Wind Energy Council.

China bested India both in new capacity installed, and total capacity on the ground.

India added 1.8GW during 2008, bringing its total to 9.7GW. Meanwhile, China put up a blistering 6.3GW -- second only to the US for the year. China ended the year with 12.2GW installed.

India’s wind industry continues to grow handsomely, taking third place in terms of total capacity installed last year.
