India – which has already established some of the world’s most aggressive renewable energy goals – set the figure in its Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) submission to the UN.

The target is part of a package of measures the nation said would reduce the emissions intensity of its energy output by 33%-35% by 2030, compared to 2005 levels.

The INDC submission makes it clear that wind and solar are central to India’s clean-energy ambitions, with national targets for 60GW and 100GW respectively by 2022 already in place under the renewables-friendly government of Narendra Modi.
