Horror stories caused by poor planning, unrealistic permitting and poor contracting practices already litter the industry. Cabling problems are estimated to be the cause of 80% of insurance claims made after project installation.

It is estimated that 75% of cable faults are caused by so-called “otter board” fishing and scallop dredging of the seabed.

“I can’t emphasise enough how much we cable installers need to be involved in project planning at the earliest possible stage,” says John Davies, managing director of subsea services at Global Marine Systems.
