With its 4.8GW of installed onshore wind, some parts of the northernmost German state have more turbines per square kilometre than anywhere else in the world. Its position, sandwiched between the North and Baltic seas, makes it an extremely windy region, particularly along its western coast.
Together with its PV and biomass capacity, Schleswig-Holstein now can source all of its electricity from green energy.
