Momentum is expected to continue whether the winner is incumbent Dilma Rousseff, of the left-of-centre Workers' Party (PT), or her challenger Aécio Neves of the right-of-centre Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB).
Rousseff and Neves are neck-and-neck in the polls. Although Rousseff is slightly ahead by four points, any prognosis of election results is considered risky.
Growth in both wind and solar is expected to continue through competitive auctions, with maintenance of local-content rules and financing from the National Development Bank (BNDES).
