The Paris-based agency says in its latest World Energy Outlook 2014 that coal, oil and gas received more than four times the $120bn paid out in incentives for renewables in 2013.
“The huge subsidies fossil fuels enjoy worldwide gives incentives to their consumption, which means that I’m paying you to pollute the world and use energy inefficiently,” says IEA chief economist Fatih Birol.
