The cost of onshore wind has fallen by a third and that of PV by 80% in the past six years, according to IEA figures.
"The reduction in the cost of renewables is a big advantage for renewables to be chosen," Birol said at a panel during the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue, which began in Berlin today and ends tomorrow.
"However, lower natural gas and coal prices may well complicate or slow down the transition to renewable energies and the pushing of energy efficiency policies."
