The German OEM's E-126 EP4 turbine, a prototype of which is due to start testing late this year with serial production to follow in 2016, will feature a 127-metre rotor with two-part blades, joining the ranks of modular models from Spain's Gamesa, Denmark's LM, and UK outfit Blade Dynamics, all of which have commercially-available segmented concepts.
Blade segmentation is perceived by many in the industry as a necessity, as designs stretch ever-longer to enhance energy capture and boost turbine output.
