Announcing the deal to buy 25% of GRI for an undisclosed sum, Mitsui said it is targeting wind power as one of its “core business segments”.
GRI has wind tower and flange manufacturing plants in Spain, Brazil, China, Turkey, India and South Africa, with sales of about €450m ($493m) last year.
The South African tower factory opened in Cape Town last October, and the company last month started producing wind flanges at its factory in Pernambuco, Brazil.
