A statement on Energy Union by the European Council – made up of leaders of the bloc’s 28 states – endorsed the European Commission’s (EC’s) drive towards closer integration of individual energy markets.
The European Council signed up to a package of measures including: accelerated build-out of interconnection infrastructure; a flexible market design and greater regional co-operation to help enhance integration of renewables; and development of “the next generation of renewables” along with measures to boost energy-efficiency and storage.
