The extra capacity – an 8.5% year-on-year increase – brings the cumulative total to 1.71TW, said REN21’s latest industry report.
Wind, solar and hydro accounted for 128GW of the growth, said the study, which noted that renewables accounted for 27.7% of global power generation capacity by the end of 2014.
The rise in capacity came as the number of nations embracing clean-energy targets and other support policies grew to 164.
