Spanish construction group Global Energy Services (GES) says it reached 450MW of wind built in Chile after completing two wind farms in 2016 with a combined capacity of 112MW, part of the company’s ongoing expansion in Latin America.
GES is now building a third wind plant, the company said in a statement, after being hired to carry out civil construction works, deliver the medium-voltage grid and turbine installation.
GES was also hired by Pattern Energy to build, operate and maintain a 122MW solar PV plant in Chile’s Atacama region.
The Spanish group is now in negotiation for further solar and wind contracts in Chile and Argentina.
While Chile has around 1GW of wind and 1GW of solar PV built, it has another 8.5GW of wind and 14GW of solar cleared for construction by the government’s environmental agency.
Argentina has just finalised a tender in which 2.4GW of solar and wind were contracted, and have to be built by 2018.
