"A modernisation and rapid expansion of electricity grids are the alpha and omega of a successful Energiewende. For that, we need the support of the people in Germany," energy minister Gabriel said, adding that the new legislation would enable the population to participate more in planning processes of power grids.
"With this legislation, we also give planners and authorities more possibilities to test underground cables on pilot sections in technical and economically-sensible segments," he said.
