Hansen, which is majority owned by India’s Suzlon, and has long been the dominant gearbox maker for the European wind market, has been thrown off balance by the financial crisis alongside many of its key customers.

Its revenues for the year ended 31 March dipped 12.6% to €532.4m ($655.8m) – slightly better than the 15% drop it forecast in January. Turnover in the fourth quarter plummeted a more menacing 31%.

The
