The 6MW Haliade, which flies 73.5-metre LM blades, was created by Alstom before its takeover by GE in answer to the French government's original 3GW offshore wind tender in 2011.

Behind its 150-metre-diameter motor is a novel electromechanical layout that marries the company's PureTorque load-deflecting rotor-support technology with a compact Advance High Density direct-drive transmission system – including a permanent magnet generator owned by GE Power Conversion.

Fifteen
