On 4 October Bluestone Wind, a subsidiary of Calpine, filed paperwork with New York authorities that will kick off what will likely be a years-long process of obtaining the relevant approvals for a 40-turbine wind farm in Broome County, New York.

The 125MW project, which would be built along the Pennsylvania border, would generate enough power to supply 50,000 New York households.

Calpine is among the largest gas-fired generators in the US, operating a huge fleet of combined-cycle plants, peakers, and co-generation plants across the country, often selling its power to local utilities.
