The Wall Street Journal claimed Siemens will take a 60% stake in an enlarged Gamesa worth about €10bn ($11.2bn) after agreement was reached "in principle".
The merger structure would include the transfer of Siemens’ offshore wind operations into the Spanish company, it claimed, without giving further details and citing sources close to the matter who it did not name.
The fate of Adwen – the offshore wind joint venture between Gamesa and Areva of France – has long been seen as the sticking point in negotiations that have dragged on for months as the Spanish and German competitors attempt to create a giant new force in the global wind insustry.
