Some 80% of those surveyed at a specially-organised Rechargeforum, attended by over 100 delegates during the recent European Wind Power Association (EWEA) conference in Paris, believe that wind farms in water depths of 60 metres and more will be a "key driver" in the industrialisation of floating wind.
Among the advantages offered by floaters over jackets and monopiles, according to those polled, are: reduced installation costs (73%), limited vessel requirements (15%) and lower operating expenditure (12%), as floating units can be towed to shore for major repairs rather than being fixed in the field.
