The milestone marks the first construction effort at any of the 15 ‘Round 2’ sites awarded by the UK’s Crown Estate in December 2003, which together have the potential to contribute 7.2 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy.
Gunfleet Sands will have a capacity of 172 megawatts (MW), boasting 48 Siemens wind turbines rated at 3.6MW each. It is scheduled to become fully operational by 2010.
