A report, entitled The Potential forEnergy Citizens in the European Union, was produced by the environmental research institute CE Delft for the European Renewable Energy Federation, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace and REScoop.eu.
The research shows that 264 million EU 'energy citizens' could potentially generate around 45% of the EU’s total electricity demand by 2050. However, EU residents face significant legal obstacles to producing their own power.
