News agency Reuters reported that the European Commission (EC) is set to decide that the deal needs to be subjected to a ‘phase two’ investigation, rather than being waved through at the first stage.
The €12.4bn ($14bn) agreement – which will see the US industrial giant acquire Alstom’s onshore wind operations and form a joint venture with the French company offshore – is one of the biggest in recent power industry history.
