Engie-led group bids in French floating wind tender

Bids to build France's first floating wind power arrays went in to Ademe, the country's environment and energy management agency, yesterday, with groups including the Engie-led Gulf of Lion consortium vying to win acreage for pilot projects in the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean.

Five consortia are understood to have bid in the tender round to build as many as ten different projects off France's Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts.

Engie has partnered with Portugal's EDP Renewables, and French contractors Caisse des Dépôts and Eiffage, in line with Ademe's pilot criteria, to construct a demonstrator made of as many as six 6MW units based on US designer Principle Power's WindFloat semisubmersible foundation.
