The UK-based development bank said it had established the new programme in order to develop subsidy-free renewables generation in Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia and Jordan – a region where energy is overwhelmingly supplied by oil and gas imports.
EBRD hopes the programme will help to stimulate private sector renewables generation across North Africa and the Middle East, where the unreliability of energy supplies is one of the main impediments to economic growth.
