The report, entitled Remap: Roadmap for a Renewable Energy Future, released today at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue, shows that renewable energy sources accounted for around 18% global energy consumption in 2014. Under existing national plans, the share of renewables is forecast to reach 21% by 2030.
According to the report the upfront costs of investing in renewables would be offset by as much as 15 times more in savings, because the technologies would curb fossil fuel consumption, limit climate change impacts and improve overall energy security.
