The new rules give municipalities a conditional right to object to plans early in the development process. Previously local populations could only be involved in consultations with developers and it was the Danish Energy Agency (DEA) which took the decisions on open-door coastal projects.
Now that decision will be taken by the country's energy and climate minister. As a conditional right, projects deemed to be of national interest may supersede local objections.
