Willenbacher's resignation was a "personal decision" unconnected with a recent court case involving a regional politician and the setting of wind-development zones, a Juwi spokesman told Recharge.
Willenbacher will remain part-owner of Juwi, together with fellow founder Fed Jung, who continues as chief executive.
Since founding the company in 1998 the two have grown Juwi into a global renewables player with more than 1,000 staff.
