Houston-based Clean Line Energy Partners– which is backed by UK-based National Grid among other investors – has been granted a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity by the Tennessee Regulatory Authority, allowing it to act as a transmission-only utility in the state.
With its 700-mile (1,130km) HVDC Plains & Eastern project, Clean Line intends to flow 3.5GW of wind power from the panhandle region of Oklahoma and Texas to electricity customers in the US Mid-South and Southeast, principally Tennessee and Arkansas.
