The overhead 780-mile-long (1,255km) 600kV direct-current line would move 4GW of wind energy from Kansas to Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and points further east. Missouri would receive 500MW.

Missouri is the last of four states where approval is necessary for the project as regulators Kansas, Illinois and Indiana earlier gave a green light.

Companies announcing their support were General Motors, Kellogg’s, Nestle, Proctor & Gamble, Target and Unilever – all leaders in the growing trend within US commerce and industry to procure renewables to meet a greater percentage of their energy requirements.
