The analyst’s annual review of investment shows $329bn was pumped into clean energy globally last year, a 4% uptick on 2014’s level and 3% higher than the previous record year of 2011.
Last year also saw a new high for renewable generation additions, with 64GW of wind and 57GW of PV commissioned.
BNEF said the surging numbers were particularly notable as they defied four factors that might have been expected to drag the sector back.
