The National Energy Administration (NEA) said this week that it has ordered the authorities in the northeastern provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning to prioritise the use of wind-generated electricity in their heating infrastructure next winter.

The new rules will also apply to north China’s Hebei and Shanxi provinces, as well as the remote Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang regions.

The NEA hopes that wind power will eventually replace coal as a source of heat during the coldest months of the year, with 10MW of wind to cover the heating needs of areas spanning up to 20,000 square meters of space in the designated regions.
