China has only installed and connected around 200MW of offshore wind capacity to date, but has set a target for 5GW by 2015, increasing to 30GW by 2020.

The Bohai wind farm will be the country’s largest and is designed to serve as a demonstration project for 3MW turbines, according to a report by the official Xinhua news agency.

Several of China’s leading turbine makers have already developed 3MW machines for offshore projects and are working on 5MW or 6MW turbines.
