Chile's current total installed capacity is 19GW, of which 900MW is wind and around 600MW is solar. By 2050, the country expects that power consumption will almost triple.

The targets are included in the country's 200-page 2050 Energy Roadmap, announced by the Mines and Energy Ministry at the same time as the country set a 30% reduction goal for greenhouse gases emissions by 2030 from 2007 levels, part of Chile's Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) ahead of the COP21 climate summit in Paris.
